What is Ultrasound?
At Riverbend Veterinary PetCare Hospital, we offer advanced ultrasound services to provide a safe, non-invasive way to evaluate your pet’s internal health. Ultrasound allows our veterinarians to view organs, tissues, and structures in real time—helping us diagnose medical concerns without the need for surgery.
Using sound waves, ultrasound creates detailed images that give us valuable insight into your pet’s condition. It is especially useful for examining areas that may not be clearly visible on X-rays.
When Is Ultrasound Recommended?
- Abdominal pain or bloating
- Heart-related conditions
- Kidney or liver disease
- Pregnancy in female pets
- Tumors or abnormal growths
- Fluid buildup in the body
How Does Ultrasound Work?
Ultrasound is a painless procedure and typically takes between 20 and 30 minutes. During the exam, your pet will rest comfortably on an exam table while a special gel is applied to the area being evaluated. A handheld probe is gently moved over the skin to capture detailed images.
In some cases, mild sedation may be recommended for anxious pets or when a more thorough examination is needed.
Benefits of Ultrasound for Your Pet
- Non-Invasive: No surgery is required, reducing risk and recovery time
- Fast Results: Most exams are completed in under 30 minutes
- Accurate Diagnosis: High-quality images support precise medical evaluations
- Safe: Suitable for pets of all ages and can be repeated when necessary
